The Boston Minuteman Flames have earned the top spot in our iSlapshot power rankings the old fashioned way… they earned it. The Flames went 6-0 in the Islanders First Annual Presidents Day Cup. Along the way, they posted wins over the Midfairfield Junior Rangers, Pittsburg Junior Penguins, and, in the final game, their most impressive win of all, a 6-2 victory over the New Jersey Colonials. This game was a matchup of the top two teams in the country facing off to determine who could lay the rightful claim to being the best in the nation. The Minuteman Flames and their high powered offense jumped out to an early first period lead that they would not relinquish. The Colonials are one of the toughest teams around and never go down without a fight, but they could not climb back in this game. The Colonials had faced deficits in almost every game during the tournament but were able to come back and pull out wins. Perhaps they spent a lot of energy during those comebacks, and didn’t have enough left in the tank to come back one last time.
